Ring in the Vintage New Year (Day 5): How to Give Yourself a 1940s Manicure

Life for women during 1940s Wartime was all about making do with what you had and our foremothers understood that all too well. This is why the style of 1940s fingernails was to have the nail crescent left unpainted. In fact, most times both the nail tip *and* crescent were left unpainted. By keeping them unpainted, the life of the nail polish could be extended -- lengthening the time women could wear their polish, which meant less waste and expense.
Below I have instructions for recreating a 1940s manicure. To really get the 1940s look, be sure your nails are almond shaped and painted in any shade of red -- the preferred color of our Wartime sisters.
Please feel free to email us with your finished manicure pictures -- and remember to Ring in the New Year by resolving to "add a little vintage to your day!"

Wow, maybe I'll be able to keep my nails painted for more than a day without looking all chipped up now.
